Tune for the weekend

Looking Down The Barrel Of A Gun from Titus Curare on Vimeo.
Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun is the 10th track on the album Paul's Boutique. One of my fav Beastie Boys tunes of all time. Produced & written by the Beastie Boys and the Dust Brothers. Engineered by Mario Caldato & Allen Abrahamson. The track contains the most live instrumentation on Paul's Boutique, with guitar and bass played by Adam Horovitz and Adam Yauch respectively. The song was later covered by the band Anthrax for the 1993 compilation album The Beavis and Butt-Head Experience. The lyrics "Get hip don't slip knuckle heads/Racism is schism on the serious tip" were repeated in the Sublime song "Don't Push" which is another of my favorite songs.

CAPTURED

Since 1979 Clayton Patterson has dedicated his life to documenting the final era of raw creativity and lawlessness in New York City’s Lower East Side, a neighborhood famed for art, music and revolutionary minds. Traversing the outside edge he’s recorded a dark and colorful society, from drag to hardcore, heroin, homelessness, political chaos and ultimately gentrification. His odyssey from voyeur to provocateur reveals that it can take losing everything you love to find your own significance.

TUNE FOR THE WEEK

S/DOUBLE SERVICE SHOE

Ok the last month (maybe year) there was no shoe release that really kicked me. But this is for sure a highlight. I always liked service shoes. Like the Neighborhood Postman Boots, The Toy McCoy`s Railman or the Buzz Rickson Service Shoes. Unfortuinatly the price tag of all them was to high. So I always went with the Doc Marten`s 3 eye shoes. Which are the same style but more bulky and have no welded soles. Anyway they are nice shoes.
But now Shawn Stussy is launching the exact shoe I want with his new venture S/DOUBLE. I am really looking forward to the release. Read the full desription at Shawn`s blog.

God Went Surfing With The Devil

Every skater kid dreams about getting sponsored, getting free stuff, traveling, making video parts, and living that life. Most kids never get that far and have to figure out something else to do for a job, and even for some who do get that far, when they get there they discover it’s not really for them. Then what? It’s a tough question. Alex Klein found himself in that position after living a nice sponsored skater’s life for years, and he found an answer on the other side of the video camera as a director of documentary films. His first one, called God Went Surfing With The Devil, is just about to come out. If you want to know more about Alex read the article here!

Since the year 2000, over 4,300 Palestinian and 1,000 Israeli lives have been claimed by the escalating conflict in the region. The situation grew markedly worse in 2006, when Israel responded to the election of Hamas by sealing off the borders, ending the free-flow of people and goods. Palestinian militants reacted to the siege by targeting Israel's civilian population with deadly rocket strikes; the Israeli Army countered with air strikes, targeting militants but often claiming the lives of innocent residents.

In 2007 it emerged that a small group of young men were surfing in Gaza, sharing battered surfboards they had attained prior to the siege. Word traveled north to Israel, and that same year, a mixed group of Israelis and Americans delivered a dozen boards to their Palestinian counterparts.

In the spring of 2008, they would attempt to deliver another 23 surfboards into Gaza. By this time the situation in Gaza had deteriorated further, the border still sealed, with military activity a near daily occurrence.

"God Went Surfing With the Devil" charts the difficulties and dangers encountered by surfers in the region. Along the way it speaks to Israelis, Arab-Israelis, and Palestinians affected by the violence, charting their daily struggle to supersede the conflict through the joys of surfing.
